Movember 2020

Movember 2020

Remember, remember men’s health this Movember

This November is shaping up to be a hair-raising month with thousands of people across the globe set to take part in Movember 2020.

As the leading charity changing the face of men’s health, Movember focuses on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Over five million people have joined the movement to help the charity raise funds to deliver breakthrough research and support to help men live healthier, happier and longer lives.

What started as a conversation between two friends (Travis Garone and Luke Slattery) over a beer in Melbourne, Australia back in 2003, has grown into a global phenomenon that has raised over £440 million and helped fund more than 1,250 projects around the planet. By encouraging men to lead healthier lives, stay socially connected, and be more open to talking about their health and lives, the Movember movement aims to have a lasting impact on the face of men’s health.

By 2030, the charity has committed to:

  • Reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%Halve the number of deaths from prostate cancer and testicular cancer
  • Reduce the number of men taking their own lives by 25%

If you’re keen to get involved in the fantastic follicle-based fundraising there are three ways to take part: You can stop shaving for the month of November and grow a moustache, you can walk or run 60 km throughout the month (to represent the 60 men lost to suicide every hour across the world), or you can host a Mo-ment (e.g. have a good time for a good cause). Men who take part are known as Mo Bros, women who encourage Mo growth, take the challenge, or host an event are called Mo Sistas.
